i chose to do on child prostitution, and
( this is my sketch! and poster )
so here are my painstakingly taken and photoshopped pictures! the subject is angie, one of my bestest and dearest friends, who so graciously helped me out when i was desperate and about to die of high blood pressure.
please try to figure out what my story is about before clicking on the explanation 1 entry below (: comments are totally welcome!
( ready, get set,go! )
( the meaning behind the photos! )
( title and my motivation )
( abstraction 4 edited! )( the final product edited! )
the whole idea of reducing the number of buttons was because 12 buttons looked a bit too much, and 9 would look simpler and better. so i changed my final pictograph, and in turn had to change the 4th abstraction in my abstraction process.
okay so now this assignment is finally edited and completed(:
for this 2nd assignment we're supposed to design a pictogram that can be used within the nus community - i chose to do a "handphones on silent mode" one, because i think we really need it stuck on lt doors! at every single lecture and almost every tutorial you'll hear someone's handphone go off.
we had to do an abstraction process, with the first diagram as the original picture of the handphone, and then the next 5 being graphics with increasing levels of abstraction. i really LOVE this assignment because i didn't have to use the dreaded pen tool, and all i had to use was the shape and text tools, and play around with the stroke and bevel and contour levels (:
( the abstraction process )
( the final pictogram! )
( i love jewelry! final )
( i hate snakes! final )
i decided to stick with a white background for both, because i felt that white makes both graphics stand out more. at the end of this assignment:
1. i almost became blind from staring too hard at the computer
2. my right index finger almost cramped from holding the mouse and clicking too much
3. i had a very bad headache and backache
4. i feel a bit more confident in my ability to use photoshop
5. i heaved a sigh of relief
6. i've decided that i like the i love jewelry one better than the snakes.
at tutorial it was said that i didn't need to change any of my finals (yay!), but perhaps if i do think of some way to improve them, and if i have the time, i will change them, before the final submission of our portfolio.
1. putting letter charms that spell our "char" is in the grey area, and so i had to search for charms (of other things like animals) that were shaped like each letter. so that the design will be more subtle, and there won't be a blatent spelling out of my name, because that's not the point of the assignment.
2. my snakes turned out too cheery and happy after i filled in the colour, and i had to make changes so that i would convey my HATE of snakes (though actually i don't really hate them, i just couldn't think of anything else). like making the snakes fiercer looking etc.
so i resketched by hand them before i starting doing the finals on photoshop, and
( here they are! )
sketching them by hand is real easy..but here comes the daunting task of doing them on photoshop :/
we had to draw 4 design concepts for each thing.
my thumbnail sketches: i really hope you can figure out what i was trying to draw!![]()
for the jewelry, i like the 2nd(beaded necklace) and the 3rd (charm bracelet) ideas and
for the snakes..i like the 1st and the 3rd ones, even though the snake charmer is cute haha.
and sorry for the bad scanning! the spirals of the sketch book were getting in the way, and i had to adjust the lighting and contrast and shadows on photoshop before it became like that. the sketches are done entirely in pencil (:
it was really hard coming up with 4 concepts for each theme - i really had to crack my brains and squeeze out every last drop of creativity in me. and even if the idea seemed stupid in my head, sometimes it isn't that bad after i've drawn it out.
